Think Tank

Last year I won the best costume during Teacher's Day. The theme was fairies and witches s I donned a simple blouse and skirt set with blue wings, pink hair and long sharp ears.

This year's theme is UNIFORM of any sort. I am accepting suggestions.

Of leaders and slaves

A serious atmosphere one snack time in K1 class

Tom: Joshua, can you pour me some milk?

Joshua: I don't want. I'm not your slave.

Levi went to where the boys are.

Levi to Tom: I'll be your slave.

Tom sat on his chair and put his cup on the table.

Tom: Okay, pour me some milk please.

Levi happily poured Tom some milk.

Of deaths and flowers

My ears were straining to hear the conversation this afternoon.

Levi: My great grandpa gave me an ipad. I love him so much! My great grandpa died and became a flower.
Joshua: I want to die too!
Phoebe: Why?
Joshua: So I can become a flower.
Oliver: When I die I'm going to be a peanut.

Suddenly the children stopped and stared at me expectantly.

Me: Ahhhmmm... I'm going to be fertilizer.

Skirts and bicycles

I arrived in school 15 minutes earlier than my work time. As I entered the gate I saw Levi cycling around with the two-seat bicycle. He stopped in front of me and asked me to sit behind him. I looked at the tiny sit and smiled, "Sorry love, I don't think I can fit there." He looked at the seat, then at me and assured me that I can fit and that I don't need to worry because he is strong and can cycle even if I'm heavy. His eyes were pleading and his voice begging for me to sit down behind him so we can go at least a few rounds. Aaahhhmmmm..... O---kay.

I wanted to give it a try but however I look at it, I can't decide how I can squeeze myself in that minuscule seat.

Ting! Idea popped up! "Levi, it will be difficult for me to sit there coz I'm wearing a skirt. Perhaps we can try again next time when I wear my pants.

Levi's eyes dropped to the floor. I put my things down, went behind him and pretended to sit on the bike. Levi smiled and cycled along with me trailing along with legs astride the bike. Six happy rounds and we are done. Levi gave me a hug before I stepped inside the school. Punched my card. 10 minutes late :)

I swear on Olaf

One late afternoon I was giving some girls Frozen princesses coloring pages when Sean approached and asked me if I can print "only Olaf" for him. I quickly replied, "Okay, next time." This made him smile, "Tomorrow? Promise?" "Sure," I nodded and went on my way.

That was two days ago. Earlier this afternoon, I went in a classroom and Sean approached me. "You said you will make Olaf for me. You broke your promise." I was stunned.

Then I remembered our conversation a few days ago. I smiled at him and apologized for forgetting. Then I quickly went to the office and printed his Olaf coloring page. Sean was ecstatic when I gave it t him. He showed it t his friends proudly saying that I made it for him.

Sometimes I take this things for granted. I am happy that I had this wake up call today. Never break promises. It may be simple or silly at times but to the person you are making the promise to, it's the world.
